PoliceLink.com has picked up Andover Township Police Officer Joseph Indano’s opinion piece for CLIFFVIEW PILOT and made it the national site’s lead story for Wednesday.
Indano, an 8-year veteran who won the 2006 State of New Jersey Police Officer of the Year Valor Award for rescuing two teens who fell through thin ice, got tired of the salary bashing and decided to set the record straight:
His story, published Monday on CLIFFVIEWPILOT.COM has drawn overwhelming reaction from men and women in blue — and not just in New Jersey.
“Those who complain about what officers earn and the benefits received could have applied for and endured what we did and do for this career and the people we serve,” one wrote. “Nice job Joe. Be safe.”
“Takes a special kind of person just to pin on a badge,” another added. “Most know they don’t have ‘it’!”
“How many times in my lifetime have I said the same things this article says to the people who just don’t understand.”
“When you can use their own numbers against them, they have no more excuses.”
As for me: Way to go, Officer Indano. You’re bright, articulate, compassionate — and dedicated. I feel safer knowing there are men and women like you protecting me and my loved ones. In my book, they can’t pay you ENOUGH.
