I put my teeth in the hands of Dr. Tony Kail, at NYU Dentistry, in an ultra-light procedure that lasted roughly two hours.
First, Dr. Kail polished my teeth. Then he shoved a big mouthpiece in there so he could do his work.
I gently rested my teeth on the mouthpiece, and Dr. Kail turned on the ultra-violet rays.
He checked on me every 15 minutes, polishing my teeth with more whitener.
After the first hour, my teeth started feeling sensitive. My jaw ached. But vanity made me hang in there. Before long -- viola! -- my teeth were 4 shades lighter. I was thrilled.
For another safe, effective and inexpensive way to bleach your teeth, Dr Kail suggests Crest Whitening Strips: Within two weeks, you should have pearly whites. And you can't beat the price: under $40.
I'm a big fan of toothpaste with whitening components. Rembrandt uses what it calls five shades of improvement. I also love Colgate Total and Crest Whitening.
Just remember: Be sure to replace your toothbrush every few months. It is wise and healthy for your gums.
As with everything, do it in moderation. It's a safer bet.
