Our self image is the person we really see when we look in the mirror. So it's not difficult to understand that a healthy self-image fosters self-motivation and self-confidence, while am unhealthy one breeds doubt and self-sabotage. And that, quite simply, is the difference between success and failure.
Tommy Hilcken
Success affirms confidence in ourselves and our abilities to think, learn, and analyze wisely. The more self-confidence we have, the better our chance of dealing with life's challenges. At the same time, unhealthy self-esteem, once it takes hold, pulls us into a downward spiral.
Want a new direction. Consider these steps:
1. Write a page listing all of your positive qualities -- helpful, friendly, on time, for instance. This not only reinforces what's best about you -- it keeps you from focusing on your negatives.
2. Act "as if." How would like to see yourself in the future? Do you want to be more outgoing? Attend more social events. Believe it or not, the behavior will become a habit and PRESTO! You’ll be more outgoing.
3. Take a moment to see yourself as others see you. Look at some pictures of yourself. Are your hands crossed defensively across your chest? Is your posture slouched? Are you smiling?
4. Look back on your most recent accomplishments. What makes you proud of them? If you could continually have this level of success, would it enhance your self-image?
With a healthy self image, you not only survive this life -- you thrive!
To your success!
