After leaving his car abandoned in last week’s snowstorm, a parking ticket still on the windshield, rapper Jim Jones was arrested after he “became belligerent” and was found to have outstanding warrants, Fair Lawn police said.
Sgt. James Corcoran spotted the car parked on Ward Street yesterday and was having it towed when Jones — a Fair Lawn resident whose real name is Joseph G. Jones — showed up and asked the sergeant what he was doing, police said.
According to Sgt. Richard Schultz, the ticket was placed on the car last Wednesday and the still hadn’t been moved, despite borough requirements that allow for street plowing.
“Deeming the car abandoned, the sergeant was in the process of having it towed and removed from the roadway when Jones approached and inquired what the sergeant was doing,” Schultz said.
“As the sergeant was attempting to explain,” he said, “Jones agreed to remove the vehicle from the roadway and pay the towing fee.”
During the conversation, the sergeant learned that the co-founder of the Diplomats had active warrants for not answering two previous summonses in Municipal Court: one for failing to remove snow from his sidewalk in April 2011 (a $43 ticket) and the other for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle in Paterson a year earelier ($150).
According to Schultz, Jones “became belligerent and uncooperative when told of the warrants.”
He then “provided false information to the sergeant and attempted to walk away as the sergeant was placing him under arrest.”
The officer took Jones into custody and brought him to police headquarters for processing.
Police additionally charged him with obstruction and disorderly conduct, and gave him a summons for abandoning the vehicle.
A Feb. 27 Municipal Court date was set.
Jones is the second former VH1 “Love & Hip Hop” star to make news this month. Last week, a jury acquitted Mendeecees Harris of statutory rape ( SEE: Mendeecees Harris sex trial ).
Jones and rapper Juelz Santana are planning to join other members of the Diplomats (aka: The Dipsets), which they co-founded, for a one-night reunion concert March 25 at B.B. Kings near Times Square to coincide with the 10-year anniversary of their first group compilation, “Diplomatic Immunity.”
Last month, Santana got probation in connection with an assault on his girlfriend, Kim ‘Bella’ Vanderhee, and on a neighbor who tried to help her:
