A Little Ferry priest was arrested on charges of pointing a Civil War-style musket at an 8-year-old child in front of witnesses at his church, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli confirmed tonight.
Detectives from Molinelli’s office took 54-year-old Fr. Kevin Carter into custody at the rectory of St. Margaret of Cortona Roman Catholic Church today, the prosecutor said.
“A search of his room located the weapon in question, as well as gun powder, ammunition and associated items for the gun,” he said.
Carter — who previously served at churches Hillsdale, Ho-Ho-Kus, Oakland and Wyckoff — was charged with aggravated assault and child endangerment and ordered held on $15,000 bail.
He remained at Little Ferry police headquarters earlier this evening.
