SUPREME PEACE: Don't bargain with yourself

It is easy to make deals with yourself. You're inspired to improve your lifestyle, whether it be eating better, meditating for the first time, exercising more, or simply doing something you just know would make you feel better. Then all of a sudden the negotiator in your head jumps in and ruins everything.

It could be reading a book, starting something new you've had your eye on, taking more time out for family or friends. The list goes on.

But what holds you back?

It's that negotiator in your head, the one that says, "That's OK. You can do it later."

Or: "I'll get around to starting an exercise routine. Soon."

And of course: "I just had sweets 2 days in a row, I better skip it today.... Oh, why not?!!"

We often go back and forth, striking deals, constantly letting ourselves off the hook. After all, there's no one to call us on it, no one to hold us accountable.

A California-based spiritual visionary, Michael Beckwith, confirms that "Discipline breeds excellence."

If you were to, at that moment, say "NO," get right up and grab that book off the shelf, make plans for a vacation, choose a salad over a heavy meal, or commit right away to get into shape, it will pour heavily into the rest of your lfie.

That's because what you do for yourself essentially affects how you see the world. If you have a relationship with yourself that is non-trusting, non-committing, easy-way-out, you will subconsciously seek the same on the outside.

Everything is inter-related -- yourself, your friends and family, the perception you have of yourself and the world.

So try this: Have compassion for yourself. Put your foot down instead of making it easy.

Then sit back and watch the compassion and excellence breed around you!
