YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A pedestrian believed to be in his 50s was struck and killed by a teenage driver in Elmwood Park this morning, authorities said.
Investigators were trying to determine the identity of the victim, who was struck by a four-door silver Nissan Altima headed north from Garfield just before 9 a.m. as he was crossing River Drive at Garden Drive from east to west across from the Delta gas station, Police Chief Michael Foligno told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
There’s no traffic signal at that intersection.
The victim was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The female driver and a witness were brought to police headquarters for questioning.
Elmwood Park police detoured southbound River Drive traffic to eastbound Route 46 and northbound traffic onto Garden Drive.
They also responded to a two-car collision just down the road a short time later.
Responders to the River Drive crash included the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Fatal Accident Investigation Unit, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification, the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office and New Jersey State Police.
